Kidneys have an important role in filtering waste and controlling the balance of minerals and fluids in the body. If the kidneys do not function properly, waste and excess water may accumulate in the body and lead to kidney disease, resulting in kidney tissue damage, kidney tissue death, and kidney dysfunction.

Kidney disease is divided into 5 levels of severity. When seriously surveyed, it is found that in the Thai adult population, there are 17.5% patients with kidney disease at all levels, or about 9.7 million people. According to figures from the Kidney Association, there are about 110,000 patients with chronic kidney disease nationwide. Moreover, if we look at the number of patients in Thailand compared to a population of 1 million people, we are considered to have the 4th highest number of patients with chronic kidney disease in the world.

Kidney disease can be divided into 2 groups.

It is a condition in which the kidneys suddenly lose their function over a period of less than 3 months. It is usually caused by dehydration or lack of blood flow to the kidneys, infection, herbal medicines, certain supplements, and the use of drugs.

It is a condition where the kidneys continuously deteriorate over a period of more than 3 months and cannot be completely cured. It is often caused by chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or polycystic kidney disease.
